Used Citroen Id

Vintage cars are popular for their odd-looking and often embarrassing looks. It is not very frequently that you get to appreciate these old cars, although designers admire them for taking the bold step. The ID, or more popular to most as the Goddess, is an executive car by French company Citroen. It came out between the years 1955 and 1975. Within twenty years, the company managed to produce and sell more than 1.5 million units – not bad, considering that executive cars are not really the type of automobiles ordinary households could afford. But what is more interesting about the Goddess is its unique, eye-catching, and space-age design. Industrial engineer and sculptor Flamino Bertino broke the mold in manufacturing executive cars during that time with the use of self-levering hydropneumatic suspension mechanism. In addition, the Goddess scored high in quality standards like riding, road handling, and brakes. Not convinced yet? Well, this classic oddly-looking futuristic car has garnered third place in the Car of the Century tilt that took place in 1999. Its top competitors were the Mini and the Ford Model T. Although it has been more than a quarter of century already since the last production of the Goddess, many people still consider the executive car as an option. Some people even confuse the Citroen Traction Avant and the Citroen CX with the ID. Although, they are siblings, it takes more than a look to know if a car is a real Goddess. The Citroen Traction Avant is actually the predecessor of the ID. In fact, most auto experts believe that the Avant was the protocol version of the ID. Whatever it was, the ID, which media often referred to as the “Idea”, proved France’s biggest achievement during that time. During its grand launch in October of 1955, car lovers were stunned at its non-conformist design. And immediately, used Citroen received 743 orders on its first fifteen minutes of showing. By the end of the day, Citroen gathered a total of 12,000 orders. Having a space-age-designed car actually gave Citroen an edge over other manufacturers during that time. At the height of the Cold War and the space race, auto journalists hailed the manufacturer as an innovator. The popularity of the Citroen ID did not last long though. Its hefty price took a toll on its succeeding sales figures. But thanks to its groundbreaking design, motorists will never put their glance away from the Goddess.
