Fiat 600

The Fiat 600, also known as the Fiat Seicento, was a car model made by the Italian car manufacturer, Fiat. The Fiat 600 is a small city car, measuring only ten and a half feet in length, about four and a half feet in width, and four feet and seven inches in height. The cars that came out of the Fiat car manufacturer were mostly set either front-engine or mid-engine. The Fiat 600 was the very first model to be ever set with an engine at its rear end. Only one body style was created for the Fiat 600, and this is the two-door coupe. However, two engines were fitted into this car model. The engines are a 633 cc straight-4 OHV and a 767 cc straight-4 OHV. If you notice, the engines only differ in fuel displacement capacity. This is because Fiat intended to have the definition of the car limited — that is, it should keep an image of a small city car. Fiat did not bother including a large engine to this small car. The smaller engine can reap a maximum power of 21 hp (horsepower) while the larger engine can have as much as 29 hp. The used Fiat 600 has a very good braking system (for its time in the 1960s). It has hydraulic drum brakes, which are all set on each wheel. The ride is pretty smooth as well. It has suspension springs that serve as stabilizers while driving the car. The suspension of the Fiat 600 is called a “single double-mounted leafspring”. This suspension complements the job done by the Fiat 600’s shock absorbers. The front wheels have the gas-charged type while the rear wheels have the coil-over type. The transmission system of the Fiat 600 is a three-sychro four-speed transaxle. A transaxle is the combination of an axle drive to the transmission system and its derivative. The Fiat 600 uses water as coolant, unlike the older Fiat 500. The Fiat 600 with the smaller engine can run as fast as 59 mph (miles per hour) while the one with the larger engine can run up to 68 mph. The Fiat 600 went in production from 1955 up to 1969. And all throughout its production, there were many different versions made and released to the public. Counting all the released Fiat 600s, it totals to 2,604,000. This is only from the plant of Fiat in Mirafiori.
